8.8. Meteorology Files

8.8.1. METLIST: List of meteorology files

The directories where the meteorology files should be stored are listed in Table 8.7, “Meteorology Input File Locations”. The table also lists the programs that use each input file.

The five meteorology files that SMOKE needs for biogenic emissions adjustments, calculation of on-road mobile source emission, and plume rise calculations are GRID_CRO_2D, GRID_CRO_3D, MET_CRO_2D, MET_CRO_3D, and MET_DOT_3D. The files are usually based on MM5 data but must be specially formatted by a postprocessor like MCIP or MCPL.

GRID_CRO_2D - 2-D grid parameters file

GRID_CRO_3D - 3-D grid parameters file

MET_CRO_2D - 2-D cross-point data file (surface meteorology data)

MET_CRO_3D - 3-D cross-point data file (layered meteorology data)

MET_DOT_3D - 3-D dot-point data file (layered meteorology data)

8.8.1. METLIST: List of meteorology files

The METLIST file is used to provide the file names of available meteorology files to the Met4moves programs. Met4moves runs once for the entire modeling episode, and therefore needs all of the files at one time. The meteorology files provided to Met4moves must cover the desired episode and contain the requested variables. In the example SMOKE scripts, this file is generated automatically. The format of this file is shown in Table 8.52, “Format for METLIST.
