Announcing the release of MCIP Version 3.1 (March 2006).

This is a minor upgrade to the MCIP code.  Changes to MCIP were overseen by Tanya Otte (NOAA/ARL/ASMD and EPA/ORD/NERL, RTP, NC).  User contributions are also noted below.  The detailed list of changes to the MCIP code is in the CHANGES file.


Also updated with this release is the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) file. Users are encouraged to read the FAQ to obtain information specific to changes made in this release, particularly on using MCIPv3.0 or MCIPv3.1 with WRF.  Users should read the FAQ before submitting inquiries to M3User, M3List, Bugzilla, CMAS, or the code developers.



The following are the notable changes for MCIPv3.1:

1.  Updated the calculation of the dry deposition velocities for elemental
    mercury (Hg0) in M3Dry to include mesophyll resistance.  All other dry
    deposition velocities are unchanged.  Changes to dry deposition were made
    by Donna Schwede, Russ Bullock, and Jon Pleim (NOAA/ARL/ASMD and
    EPA/ORD/NERL/AMD, RTP, NC).

2.  Corrected tolerances on calculation of grid origin for WRF so that the
    grid center is not restricted to a cell corner.  Issue raised by Maudood
    Khan (Georgia DNR) and Rob Gilliam (NOAA/ARL/ASMD and EPA/ORD/NERL/AMD,
    RTP, NC).

3.  Updated vertical coordinate definitions for WRF to be consistent with
    changes to I/O API.

4.  Corrected setting for I/O API grid definition for Mercator projection.
    Issue raised by Le Hoang Nghiem (Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand).

5.  Updated script to correctly set namelist end string for Mac running XLF
    compiler.  Issue raised by James Wallace (U. North Carolina).

6.  Updated compiler options in Makefile for Intel compilers on 64-bit machine.

7.  Updated FAQ.
