Oral Presentations

Here is a quick outline of how this conference will work, so that you can prepare properly. Please use the links provided if you need help recording and narrating your presentation or uploading to YouTube. If you choose to upload your presentation to a different host, you will need to follow similar steps, but the upload process will be specific to your host. Note: Video presentations will only be available to paid conference registrants, and they will only be available in the weeks leading up to the conference, during the conference, and for a few days after the conference. After the conference is over, CMAS will make all presentations PPTs/PDFs sent to us available from the Conference Archive unless directed otherwise.

Send Your Photo to CMAS

Send a photo of yourself, preferably a head shot, to cmasconference2021@unc.edu by September 13, 2021. The photo of yourself should be oriented as a portrait (height bigger than width) and should be at least 320 pixels x 480 pixels.

Send Presentation PDF and a Link to Your Presentation Video to CMAS

Send a copy of your presentation in PDF form and a link for your presentation video to cmasconference2021@unc.edu by October 17, 2021. The presentation PDF file should simply contain your slides, i.e. no audio, please. Your presentation video should be no longer than 15 minutes. You should:

Any streaming service that is accessible via a URL is acceptable. We will embed a small version of your video on our web site.

Question and Answer Session

After watching the presentations, attendees will submit questions to presenters about their presentations by filling out a Google form. Questions will be collated, and then we will host a webinar for each session during the conference where presenters can answer user questions. Session chairs will manage the Q & A sessions and ask the attendees' questions. Session chairs will share the questions with the presenters ahead of time. Webinar attendees will be able to follow up with presenters during the Q & A session, time permitting.

Poster Presentations

Since this year's conference will be virtual, there will not be physical posters to print, hang up, or view. Instead, we will host the Poster Session using the Gather online platform. Poster Presenters will send CMAS an image of the poster, and we will create virtual kiosks for everyone's poster to be displayed for the duration of the conference. On Friday, November 5, we will host a virtual poster presentation from 1 - 3 PM ET on the Gather platform. Presenters should log in to Gather ahead of time, find their poster, and then position themselves near the poster, so that other attendees can view the poster and ask questions using Gather's Chat capabilities.

General Guidelines

Posters should be about 3' high X 5' wide
Your poster should be self explanatory so that you are free to supplement and discuss particular points raised in inquiry
You may want to group logically consistent sections or columns of the poster on backgrounds of the same color
Prepare a label for the top center of your poster which includes: Title, authors and affiliations, using 72 point lettering
Arrange materials in columns rather than rows. An introduction should be placed at the upper left, and a conclusion at the lower right, both in large typescript.
The sequence of illustrations should be clearly indicated with numbers or letters of 72 point size, preferably in bold lettering. Each figure or table should have a heading of one or two lines in large type stating the "take-home" message. Detailed information should be provided in a legend in smaller types below. The legend should describe the content of the figure and the conclusions derived therefrom. Charts, drawings and illustrations might well be similar to those used in making slides - preferably simpler and more heavily drawn. Keep everything as clear as possible.

Poster presenters are asked to send a graphic of their poster, in JPG, PNG, or PDF format, to cmasconference2021@unc.edu by October 24, 2021 for posting on our website.

Extended Abstracts

Extended abstracts should be submitted by November 1, 2021. All presenters need to provide an extended abstract. The abstracts should be NO LONGER THAN 6 pages and should be submitted in PDF format. The abstract should include your name, affiliation, e-mail address, fax number, and phone number. Please e-mail your extended abstract to cmasconference2021@unc.edu with the subject line "Conference extended abstract" by November 1, 2021. Extended abstracts will not be accepted after December 1, 2021.
